When John and Tanay first reached out and described their wedding to us, I couldn’t bring my chin up and off the ground for a while! We booked a dream wedding during our first year of living in San Francisco and I was on cloud nine about it. It ended up being a favorite of the year and more beautiful than even expected.
A day after Jamie and I celebrated our 4 year wedding anniversary, John and Tanay celebrated their wedding day in John’s parent’s backyard. Not just any ordinary home though! Do you remember the Disney movie, Pollyanna? They filmed most of the movie at this house… I really need to see this movie now. 🙂
John put in an incredible amount of work to get all of the details and decorations perfect on this day. I’m pretty sure that this is the only Bay Area wedding we’ve so far shot where the couple didn’t hire a coordinator/planner. John and Tanay did most of their shopping in India for outfits and decorations, so just wait until you see how stunning all of it looks! They recruited help from friends and family to carry a bunch of lanterns back to the States, too. This was a real team effort for a DIY, backyard Indian wedding and we’ve never seen anything like it before. I wouldn’t mind going back to this day for a whole lot of reasons. One important one being the samosas that I haven’t really stopped thinking about since this day.
This day couldn’t have been sweeter and I don’t think I’ll get over all of the incredible aspects of getting to photograph it. For one, they had a tin type photo booth and John and Tanay made sure we got a shot of ourselves there before we got too busy during the day. They had John’s family feed Tanay In and Out before the ceremony… yes please to In and Out on your wedding day and to making traditions your own. Tanay walked down the aisle under a rainbow flag that his family led him with (again, perfectly making the Indian tradition their own). They had a super sweet ceremony in John’s backyard gazebo. And they had the cutest organized couple dance at the end of the night!
Can’t wait for you to see this amazing day!
